Chalchitra Abhiyaan is a film and media collective based in Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh, India. It covers five districts of Western Uttar Pradesh, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, and Saharanpur. It is also a production house that produces political, grassroots documentaries from South Asia.
This edition focuses on these five districts in the sugarcane belt of West UP.

Saharanpur
An archaeological site known for its hand-carved wooden artifacts, the city got its name after the renowned Sufi saint Shah Haroon Chisti. The region also has some famous religious attractions like the World-famous School Darul Uloom Deoband and Shakumbri Devi temple. Almost 70% of the population speaks Hindi followed by Urdu in the region. The district's average literacy rate is 76.32%, with women at 71.82% and men at 80.37%. Meerut
Meerut is a mix of cultures and an important industrial town. It produces diverse goods such as musical instruments, and sports goods. It is also known as Asia’s biggest gold market. It was prominently involved in the rebellion of 1857 against the East India Company. It was also one of the first cities in northern India where publishing was set up during the 19th century. The district's average literacy rate is 75.66 % with women at 69.79% and men at 80.97%. The sex ratio is 897 females for every 1,000 males, and the child sex ratio is 847 girls for every 1,000 boys.
Shamli
Shamli was carved out of Muzaffarnagar, and became a district in 2012. It has a rich cultural heritage. It was prominent region in the 1857 rebellion and the battles of Panipat. It has the musical history and legacy of Kairana - a prominent gharana of Hindustani Classical music. These gharanas have produced the likes of Bhimsen Joshi, and Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, and produced some important ragas including Mile Sur Mera Tumhara. The district's average literacy rate is 80.32%, with women at 73.70% and men at 86.21% . The sex ratio is 876 females for every 1,000 males.
Baghpat
Bagpat or Bhagpat is known for its multi-religiosity due to the presence of various temples, mosques, churches, and gurdwaras. A major temple is the Digamber Jain Bara Mandir which holds great importance. A three-day carnival is organized in April in the temple every year. The district's average literacy rate is 72.01%, with women at 59.95% and men at 82.45%. The sex ratio is 861 females for every 1,000 males.
Muzaffarnagar
The city was established during the Mughal era in 1633 and named after Commander Sayyid Muzaffar Khan Barha by his son. It is known as an agricultural industry and for its road and rail connectivity. As for the language spoken, the Khariboli dialect is the native language that resembles the Haryanavi dialect. The district is known for its sugar and jaggery production and has some important industries making it a trading hub. The district's average literacy rate is 79.80%, with women at 74.56% and men at 84.56%. The sex ratio is 899 females for every 1,000 males.

In July, the CCA team hosted 11 book exhibitions and 22 film screenings in the five districts in Western UP. These events were attended by around 1000 people including women and children.
