Municipal elections: Why did BJP lag behind?
Voting took place in two phases for 760 municipal bodies in Uttar Pradesh's 75 districts. Among these, there are 17 municipal corporations, 199 municipal councils, and 544 nagar panchayats. Out of 199 seats in the municipal councils, BJP and its allies have won 94 seats. SP has won 39, Congress 4, BSP 16, and others have registered victories on 46 seats. When it comes to nagar panchayat seats, BJP has won 196, SP 91, Congress 14, BSP 38, and others have won 205 seats. Comparing it to the 2017 municipal corporation elections, this time Congress has performed even worse. BSP could only give a tough fight to the ruling party on four seats. The performance of Owaisi's party in Meerut is a cause of concern for SP. The team from CCA had a discussion with social worker Shakeeb Alam regarding the results of the municipal body elections. Shakeeb Alam says that there is a significant turnaround in the municipal elections this time.
