On 22 January 2024, the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya was inaugurated amidst much fanfare. The mainstream media unquestioningly celebrated the event and refused to ask any questions about the ethics of conflating religion and politics. CCA brings the voices of farmers and their leaders to their reactions to the event.
January 14, marked the birthday of the renowned progressive poet from Shamli district, Shamsher Bahadur Singh. The event, titled 'Aman ke Raag' (Melody of Peace), included talks, poetry recitations, and film screenings. The celebration was attended by young people, and villagers, and was jointly organised by ChalChitra Abhiyaan, Bharat Naujawan Sabha, and Jasam.
On the other hand, West UP continues to see growing violence against Dalits. CCA brings to light these disturbing incidents from Muzaffarnagar and Meerut districts, as well as the growing protests against caste violence.
Sugarcane farmers continue their peaceful protests in many parts of the region against a whole range of issues, even as the state government continues to ignore their demands.
Finally, as political parties prepare themselves for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, CCA speaks to a whole range of people to understand how they will vote in this election.

BJP is in power due to Muzaffarnagar riots
With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, all political parties have started their preparations. Due to the Muzaffarnagar riots, the BJP is currently in power. In light of the elections, the CCA team is consistently reaching out to the general public to understand their electoral concerns. The CCA team spoke to people at Fugana Chowk in the Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Rakesh Tikait's stance on the Ram mandir
A maha panchayat was held in protest against the inauguration of a toll plaza near the village of Jagahedi on the national highway in Panipat Khateema. Rakesh Tikait, the spokesperson for BKU, stated in the assembly that only the price of what is provided should be collected, in contrast to the forceful actions by the government. Despite incomplete construction, with roads and bridges yet to be completed, the demands of the farmers related to the highway are not being fulfilled. Tikait commented that the government has even made Lord Ram a part of its administration.

Muzaffarnagar: A Dalit youth was beaten to death
In Muzaffarnagar Khatauli, Uttar Pradesh, in the village of Jasaula, a Dalit youth named Ankit was brutally beaten to death on the night of January 7, 2024. This has sparked significant outrage in the village. The victim's Dalit family alleges that their son was mercilessly attacked and killed by influential individuals in the village. The aggrieved Dalit family has demanded justice from the government.

Huge protest by Dalits in Meerut
On October 25, 2023, Rajmistry Indu Shekhar, a resident of Sadhara Pur village in Meerut, was shot dead in Dhanpur village during an examination. After the demand for justice was not met for two months, on January 10, people from the Dalit community staged a sit-in protest. They demanded the arrest of the accused in the murder of Indu Shekhar, financial compensation for his family, government employment, and the provision of a flat in Meerut City. The protest took place at Commissioner Park on January 10.

Muzaffarnagar: Kissan mahapanchayat
In protest against the inauguration of a toll plaza near the village of Jagahedi on the national highway in Panipat Khateema by the Bharatiya Kisan Union, a mahapanchayat was organized. Farmers state that despite incomplete construction, with roads and bridges yet to be completed, their demands related to the highway are not being fulfilled.
Shamli : Farmer's Tractor March
On the occasion of Republic Day in the Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, the Bhartiya Kisan Union organized a tractor march at all block levels, presenting the main demands of the farmers. The demands included issues ranging from the repeal of the three farm laws to addressing other problems, emphasizing the need for laws on MSP (Minimum Support Price).

Shamli : Farmers announce mill to be shut on 15th Feb
Farmers in the village of Liloun in the Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh held a meeting regarding pending sugarcane payments. In the meeting, farmers warned Shamli Sugar Mill that if the outstanding payment of 214 crores and 21 lakhs from the previous season is not made, an indefinite sit-in protest will be initiated at the Shamli Mill after February 15th.
